An open flue is an open door for rain, nesting birds and squirrels, and a chimney with a missing or rusted-out cap will let all three in eventually. I fit caps sized to the actual flue rather than a generic size that leaves gaps, and where a chimney is an odd shape or has more than one flue, I make up a custom cover to fit it properly.
This one's cheap insurance against bigger problems. Keeping water and animals out of the flue protects the liner and firebox underneath, and it's a lot less than dealing with the damage they cause once they're in.

Outstanding in every way! Drew worked with us to select the right wood stove, fresh air intake, blower, chimney liner and cap for us. On installation day, he and his crew went above and beyond to carefully removed bricks from the back of the firebox and to core drill through the remaining wyths and limestone facade for a fresh air intake. They fully sleeved the chimney, custom fit a chimney cap, ran power for a blower to an outlet in the crawlspace, and insulated the lower chimney, all while working in almost impossibly tight conditions and taking great care for our 100+ year old house. This kind of attention to detail is rare these days! It really just doesn't get better than DeltA Chimney Sweep!
