Yes, every job is quoted after I've seen the work involved, so you get a clear, fixed price with no surprises once the work starts.

Are you insured and do you follow current standards?

Yes, I'm fully insured, and all stove and flue installations are carried out with current regulations, including Document J, taken into account.

How long does a sweep or installation take?

A standard sweep usually takes under an hour. Stove installations and fireplace restorations take longer, and I'll give you a realistic timeframe once I've seen the job.

How do I know if there's an underlying problem with my chimney?

I inspect the chimney and flue properly rather than just clearing soot, so if there's an issue like a damaged liner or a blockage, I'll identify it and explain your options honestly.

Before fitting a new liner I check the condition of the existing flue, its size, and whether it's suitable for the stove going onto it. A flue that's the wrong diameter or in poor condition can cause a stove to underperform or, worse, be unsafe, so getting this right matters more than the stove itself in a lot of cases.

I fit the liner with insulation and a register plate to close off the void around it, and test the system once it's in to make sure it's drawing properly. Where a chimney has been dormant for years, relining is often the job that makes it usable again.

Our requirements were a replacement of one stove plus maintenance, and installation of a second stove in a fire place that has remained dormant for over 10 years.
